Title says it all for the most part. Details after the jump.
In 2014, rap collective Odd Future was set to open for Eminem while he was on tour. However, immigration officials in New Zealand barred OF because they had “deemed to be a potential threat to public order.” If you Google “odd future banned” the above image will pop up because it’s the photo that was released to the press or one of the outlets started using it…so the rest followed. I really have no idea, but it cracks me up to this day.
The statement issued behind the ban by Immigration New Zealand was the following:
“Odd Future has been deemed to be a potential threat to public order and the public interest for several reasons, including incidents at past performances in which they have incited violence.”
I saw a few other statements mentioning that Odd Future (or members…mainly Tyler) also used misogynistic and homophobic language in the bast. Kind of ironic that they were touring with Eminem at the time, right? Another case we can probably chalk up to Pappy’s Good Old Fashion Racism (TM).
Anyway, I’ve been to two Odd Future shows, and they were super fun. The most afraid I got was when Tyler made everyone jump at once with the bass of “Tamale” at The Tabernacle theater in Atlanta, GA– where the floor had cracked a month and a half earlier at a Panic at the Disco! show.
